Greatings,
Yea.... If you have not noticed, Lebanon road over the DNT is now open!
There is a very special guest writer for this newsletter. If you will recall, I mentioned in the last newsletter that my wife, Val, went on a mission trip. Well, she has detailed her experience below in a "Trip Not Soon to be Forgotten". Before anyone else says it, yes I know she writes much better than I do. In fact, I think she should take over this newsletter! :-)
I hope everyone had a safe start to the new school year. My children are back into the groove of things and I know Val and I are happy to see school start again :-) Please continue to drive carefully and watch for children. It is especially nice seeing the families walking to school together in the mornings!
Are you hearing gunfire? You are not hearing things. It is that time of year again; Dove Hunting Season. While the City of Frisco has an ordinance against the discharge of firearms in the City, State Law over-rides our ordinance. So, if you live near a large open field, chances are that you are hearing the hunters. I know that Curtsinger Elementary is across the street from the Lawler tract and you can hear gunfire there from time to time.
I recently received a note about an interesting contest. The "BAD" garage contest, where the winner will win a free garage makeover. I would enter, but it would not be fair to everyone else as I would win hands down :-) The web site I was sent is www.freegaragemakeover.com. The contest runs from September 1st thru September 28.
Don't forget, the Frisco Farmers Market is every Friday and Saturday at Frisco Square (in front of City Hall). The Friday hours are 8 AM - 1:00 PM and the Saturday hours are 8:00 AM until SOLD OUT. You can find corn, tomatoes, peaches, strawberries, blue berries, raspberries, potatoes, onions, beans of all kinds and so much more. Even booths for honey, jewelry and other stuff.
The Farmers Market will run through Oct. 20th and they hope to add Fall flowers. Don't miss out!
The Leadership Frisco class X needs your help. They are just $2800 short of helping the Boys and Girls Club purchase a 29-passenger bus. The Boys and Girls Club in Frisco reaches out to hundreds of children every day and they really could use your support. You can make your tax-deductible donation payable to The Boys and Girls Club of Collin County and mark it "Bus". Simply mail it to "Leadership Frisco Class X, Frisco Chamber of Commerce, 6843 Main St., Frisco, TX 75034. For additional information, E-mail Cathy Barker at BGCCC or call 214-544-8924. Looking for a dog? I received a note about a 3-4 year old loveable dog that is looking for a home. She weighs approximately 34 lbs and she is short. All her vet bills have been paid in full and she is just in need of a loving heart and home.
For additional information, contact Patrice Wheeler at 469-879-8989.
The last update I received showed less than 5 team spaces left for the ever popular Frisco Chamber of Commerce 21st Annual John Weinberg Golf Tournament. The event is on September 10 at Craig Ranch. To see if any additional spaces are available, contact the chamber at 972-335-9522.
John Gay, a Frisco resident and a financial planner, has a Blog called Christian Money Talk. John asked me to pass on that he has presentations he gives at civic/community organizations.
Also, Farstar Inc., a sales and marketing firm, announced that it will move into its new home on Main Street in historic downtown. Have a safe and happy weekend! Maher Maso

Infrastructure Updates
In this section, you will find the most up-to-date information available on roadways and infrastructure in and around Frisco. To keep this information as up-to-date as possible, I maintain links directly to the reports sections of the different entities.
NTTA:
I know many of you are wondering when the Tollway extension is going to open. The current plan is to open on Friday afternoon, September 28. The Lebanon Bridge is now open!
- NTTA Board Approved a transition to all-electronic Toll Collections. The implementation will be completed by May 2010. All future NTTA turnpike projects will be all electronic.
TxDOT:
I can't keep up with the changes on 121 and cross streets, such as Preston. As I wrote about in the last newsletter, traffic alignments are changing on a regular basis and temporary closures seem to be common. Preston and S.H. 121 seems to be an especially challenging intersection. If you find lanes are being closed, my recommendation is to find an alternate. Legacy, Parkwood, Coit, Custer and the Tollway all seem to work better at times.
The Ohio/121 overpass has slipped a bit due to the recent rains. The overpass is now scheduled to open January of 2008.

Mission Trip: Nicaragua 2007
A trip to not soon be forgotten -- Mission Trip: Nicaragua 2007 -- By Val Maso
I wondered if this was for me. I asked
myself if this was something I could actually do? I prayed to God for the answers, to know if I was really ready for this. I would soon know my answer....
It was on Aug 11 that a group of almost 50 people left the comfort of our own homes and what we know as daily life here in Frisco to travel to an unknown place, Susuli, Nicaragua, to experience one of life's purposes. That purpose was different for each team member with each one of us bringing our various skills to the mission. Some came as doctors, some came as dentists, some as preachers, and then there were those of us that came just because we felt the call, not actually knowing in what capacity we would serve.
We arrived in the capital city, Managua, where we would be staying for the first night. It was with great uncertainty and wonderment that we set out the next day for the mission field. As we rode for several hours in our bus, climbing curvy mountain roads and seeing the most beautiful landscapes in the world, we also witnessed the severe poverty that many of us in the U.S. never see. As I passed the tent cities where many families had made homes out of what appeared to be black Glad trash bags, propped up by tree limbs, I knew I was needed here. I knew at that point that all of my prior fears and worries no longer prevailed within. A feeling of peace came over me and I knew that I would be okay.
When we finally arrived in the town of Susuli, which was to be our home for the week, we were again overcome by emotion as we realized there were hundreds of people waiting for us. Many came either to welcome us or out of curiosity to see what it was we were doing. There were lines of hundreds of people standing at the fence which surrounded our area. Many would end up staying there all night, so that they could be the first in line for the next day. That night would be when we prepared for the week by getting our supplies ready and fixing our sleeping area. This meant that we were running extension cords all throughout every building in the whole complex. I have never seen so many electrical cords in my life. (Our fire chief would have had a fit!) We also had to get out our sleeping bags, air mattresses and bug tents set up.
My next moment of second guessing myself as to whether I belonged here or not, came when it was time for me to take care of nature's call. I had to look at the bright side that I was going to have really strong legs by the end of the week! :-)
The next morning came very early. I think it was around 3am that the first rooster crowed, and I emphasize "first", because I think everyone in the village owned a rooster. By weeks end, I was naming them, because each one has a distinct sound, so I knew when it was okay for me to go back to sleep or actually time to get up!
Throughout the week, our team was able to see over 3700 patients, over 400 dental patients, give out over 18,000 prescriptions, treat hundreds of animals, and dispense over 1600 eye and reading glasses. We also took 1000 family portraits, gave out over $4500 worth of rice and beans and other gifts, including baby diapers and blankets. We passed out shoes, clothes and toys that had been donated by local Frisco area people. And boy-- the excitement that this caused was incredible! (Please, keep sending your shoes and toys for next year!)
Although we were mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted by the end of the week, we all knew what our purpose had been. We all figured out why each of us was there, coming together as a unified team to lead a greater cause. Did I mention that close to 400 people came to know Christ? A phenomenal experience....
I write this overview not knowing who will read it, but knowing that somehow it has come to you, and that you too will discover your place in all this. Next year we are going to Honduras and Nicaragua, and we will need even more support. If you are able to help out in any way, whether by donating items for the trip, giving time or money, or even going on the trip yourself, please contact us. You may go to the website at www.northtexasmissions.org or e-mail Bob Johnson at rajohnson11@sbcglobal.net .
Most of all, I was able to make some great new friends on this mission trip. I was honored to be part of such a wonderful group of people that gave of themselves so unselfishly.

Who is My Representative?
A common question I receive from residents of Frisco is "Who is my Representative?"
On the left side of this newsletter, you will find the contact information for many of those representatives. However, there is an easier way to find out who represents you at the County, State and Federal level.
Your voter registration card will contain that information and it is a breeze to find it on-line. This article addresses those of you who live in Collin County, but the process should be the same for those that live in the Denton County portion of Frisco.
If you are in Collin County, Click HERE to view your voter registration card (It will ask you for your first and last name and your birthdate). Once entered, you will see your voter registration card.
On the right, you will see the different representatives that you have. Click your district number and the contact information will be displayed.
If you are in Denton County, HERE is the link. It should be very similar. I have placed these links in the new resident section on the left side.

Frisco Arts Annual Gala
ARTS IN
FRISCO ON THE
RISE WITH CORPORATE SUPPORT Newman Village and Capitol One take the lead
in Investing In Frisco Arts:
Le
Rêve Art Inspirations Gala Benefiting Frisco
Arts
August 26,
2007 (Frisco, TX) --
In an increasingly hurried world, the arts provide depth and reflection. The
Frisco Association for the Arts invites art supporters to pause and be inspired
by attending its annual fundraising gala, "Le Rêve Arts Inspirations" presented
by Newman Village on Saturday, September 29, 2007.
Le Reve translates to "dream" and represents
the unlimited possibilities and inspirations for the arts in Frisco.
The 6th annual black tie event at Stonebriar Country Club is a
sought-after gala for Collin
CountyCollin
County
leaders and arts patrons. Several of Frisco and
corporations have joined the Frisco Arts to be a part of Frisco's
commitment to a creative and cultural community.
Bill
Darling, President of Darling Homes and Frisco Partners explain, "We've always
understood the importance of how the arts impacts lives. Just as the City of
Frisco has distinguished itself with public works
of art, Newman
Village is like no other
community. Neighbors will be able to walk to the park and attend a concert or
see an art show. At Newman
Village
success
is measured in smiles as much as square feet and doors are seen as opportunities
for friendship."
As presenting sponsor
of the Frisco Arts gala, Newman
Village also features unlimited possibilities for
its homeowners. Inspired the City of Frisco's
emphasis on the importance of the arts, amenities at
Newman
Village will do the same.
Neighbors will be surrounded by a tranquil, exquisite
European fountain, original works of art, and a stunning 2.6-acre central
plaza. A staging area within this plaza will provide opportunities for live
concerts and art exhibits.
At the
Diamond level, Capitol One joins the City of
Frisco as a major player in the arts. Capital One Bank
finds Frisco Arts meets its commitment to finding
and investing in programs that enhance and strengthen the lives of children and
families. Since the
arts are important tools for educational, economic and community development, supporting
Frisco Arts is an excellent opportunity to create vibrant communities.
Matt Davis,
Assistant Regional Marketing Manager shares how supporting the arts brings the
corporate values at Capital One Bank to life: "Our values are "Excellence" and
"Do the Right Thing." Excellence in how we perform as individuals and teams. Do
the Right Thing in how we interact with each other, our customers and our
community."
At the Platinum level are American Bank of
Texas and Frisco Style who each are taking an active
role in the evening's production. The silent auction is a critical fundraising
component and American National Bank is underwriting the auction presentation.
Frisco Style, an inaugural Frisco Arts sponsor has provided all of the design,
production and advertising for the gala.
In Gold category, several companies are represented as a solid foundation to
support the arts and creativity. Companies include: Atmos Energy, Hall
Financial Group, Land Rover Frisco, The Condit & Maso Families, Shops at Starwood,
Stonebriar Country Club, Sweeney Media Group and . Bronze sponsors include Frisco Roughriders Baseball, Stonebriar Westin
Resort, Nikki Carmody James, David Prince CPA and the firm of Faning, Harper and
Martinson.
To honor those who have made the arts possible in Frisco, "Art Starters" will be
recognized at the gala and take their lifetime place as a significant
contributor to Frisco. Each year, new Art Starters will be added to continually
recognize the effort required to keep the arts top of mind. The inaugural art
starters are:
Baxter
Brinkmann, Christine Goestsch, Craig Hall, Del and Ann Harris, Don Hermanot,
Nikki Carmody James, Chris Johnson, Maher and Val Maso, Patricia Meadows, Diana
Moya, Sonny Moyers, Linda Pardue, Massimo Pizzoleo, George Purefoy, Kathy Seei,
Tracie Reveal Shipman, Mike and Sandy Simpson, and Glendy Valdez.
The gala will be a memorable evening featuring international performers, Realis,
former Cirque Du Soleil and nationally televised entertainers provided by World
Olympic Gymnastics Academy.
The evening
includes a cocktail reception, seated dinner, "afterglow" libation lounge with
dessert buffet and dancing and auction.
Le Rêve
will feature a motivational presentation of "Living Vicariously" to encourage
guests to provide financial support for scholarships to support Frisco ISD
students, families and seniors to participate in the arts.
Advance reservations are required. You can reserve your table now by calling
972-668-5180. Sponsorship opportunities are also still available by contacting
the Frisco Arts office at: director@friscoarts.org
