Urban Legends

Okay, a short paragraph on urban legends.  I'm guilty (probably for the first time!!!) of passing on an urban legend. I usually check and double check all info to see if it is real.  In today's world with the large reach of the Internet, some stories (fake) never die.  The free Bill Gates, Microsoft or AOL give-away (remember, just forward this e-mail and you will get $$ or free tickets!) comes to mind!

In my last newsletter, I sent the Mars information that was forwarded to me be a citizen. Well, it was an urban legend. No one caught it and I didn't receive any e-mails on it.  I just happened to recheck the newsletter and decided to confirm it.  There is a great site for checking urban legends. Whenever you get a message about a missing child or making money, check this site. You can find it at www.snopes.com.  This particular urban legend can be found at:  http://www.snopes.com/science/mars.asp

Drought Contingency

FRISCO IMPLEMENTS ‘STAGE ONE’ OF DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN

(June 27, 2005) The City of Frisco is implementing “Stage One” of its Drought Contingency Plan, which promotes water conservation through public education.

This stage is activated when the total city water usage exceeds 25 million gallons per day for seven consecutive days.

The City of Frisco reminds citizens no outdoor watering is allowed between the hours of 5 a.m. – 8 .m. and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

If the lack of rainfall persists, Stage Two of Frisco’s Plan involves limiting outdoor watering to two days a week, based on an “even-odd”

address system.

For more information about Frisco’s Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan, call Jody Purvis, Water Education Coordinator, at 972-335-5520 or go http://www.friscotexas.gov/publicworks/restrictions.html
